Physical Wellbeing with Horses

Page history last edited by ruth billany 15 years ago

With the choice of having horses in you life there is the added benefit of related physical activities keeping you fit and healthy.

The story below show how important riding was to one woman and her courageous effort to maintain a contact with horses and keep he rindependence.

In 1991 I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I really believe that my regular horse riding help delay the progress of my ms, I had to return to town and did not ride much at all and for the last five years or so  have not been able to ride and my ms has taken a gallop. If circumstances were different and I had someone to help me mount I feel I would still be able to ride for pleasure and my mental health, just going for a ride did wonders for my state of mind, a feeling that was shared with my fellow riders.  I had to have horses so bought a miniature colt and they are like chocolate, you have to have more than one. They give me immense pleasure but not quite like riding which I miss immmensely.  That’s my story. (WA, Aust.)

For some of us having a fit and active body is empowering to enable action without the thought or feeling of pain.
